Once again this year it has been the pleasure of our club to issue the following special awards to Desert Ice participants:
Barbara Roles Trophy
Juvenile Girls Champion
2010 Desert Ice Award Winner: Marissa Becker
This trophy will be presented to the winner of the Juvenile Girls Free Skating event. This is a trophy of encouragement. Winning Juvenile Girls is a stepping-stone to the future! The perpetual trophy, with winner’s name engraved, will remain on display at the Skating Club of Nevada. A suitably engraved personal keepsake is presented to the winner.
Chuck Williams Memorial Award
2010 Desert Ice Award Winner: Nick Leone
All male skaters who enter a Free Skating event from the Red Rock thru Senior levels are eligible. This trophy will be presented for the best musical interpretation. Chuck Williams was a great skating enthusiast. He really enjoyed seeing male skaters being unlimited and interpreting music! The perpetual trophy, with winner’s name engraved, will remain on display at the Skating Club of Nevada. A suitably engraved personal keepsake is presented to the winner.
Cal Ashton Artistic Trophy
2010 Desert Ice Award Winner: Alexandra Luttrell-Freeman
All skaters who compete in the artistic event from Pre-Preliminary through Senior levels are eligible. This trophy will be presented for the most artistic (dramatic or light) showcase program. This trophy is donated in memory of Cal Ashton in honor of the sport of Figure Skating. Cal truly enjoyed the artistic side of skating; she could see the true personality of the skater’s spirit shining through! The perpetual trophy, with winner’s name engraved, will remain on display at the Skating Club of Nevada. A suitably engraved personal keepsake is presented to the winner.
Surya Bonaly Performance Trophy
2010 Desert Ice Award Winner: Elizabeth Kulik
All skaters who compete in a free skating or artistic event from Pre-Preliminary through Senior levels are eligible. This trophy will be presented for the most assertive (intensely skated) program. Surya, known for her incredibly strong work ethic and intense dedication to the sport of figure skating, wishes to acknowledge the athlete who takes command of the ice utilizing the entire ice and program filled with strong, intense skating. The perpetual trophy, with winner’s name engraved, will remain on display at the Skating Club of Nevada. A suitably engraved personal keepsake will be presented to the winner.
Tai Babilonia Interpretive Trophy
2010 Desert Ice Award Winner: Tianna Raught
All skaters who compete in the Interpretive event from Tumble Weeds through Senior levels are eligible. This trophy will be presented for the best overall interpretation and presentation of the music. Tai, known for outstanding artistry in her performances, wishes to acknowledge the athlete who portrays excitement while interpreting the selected music. The perpetual trophy, with winner’s name engraved, will remain on display at the Skating Club of Nevada. A suitably engraved personal keepsake will be presented to the winner.
Skating Club of Nevada “Blade Award”
2010 Desert Ice Award Winner: Jona Demaggio
Competitors eligible for this award will be skaters from Red Rock through Senior levels free skating. This trophy will be given to the skater with the best overall “Presentation & Performance” in a Freestyle event. Placements will not be taken into account in the judging for this award. The Skating Club of Nevada donates this trophy and only home club members are eligible. The recipient must be a member of the Skating Club of Nevada for a minimum of three years in good standing and must skate regularly at the Skating Club of Nevada’s home rink . Voting will be based on the majority vote of (1) The Event Head Referee; (2) the Board of Directors of the Skating Club of Nevada – which shall have one vote, and (3) the Event Public Address announcer The perpetual trophy, with winner’s name engraved, will remain on display at the Skating Club of Nevada. A suitably engraved personal keepsake will be presented to the winner.
